Steve started his horticultural career journey over 16 years ago, throughout his extensive career he has gained a wealth of horticultural knowledge from practical experience working in Nurseries both in Australia and overseas and building a successful garden maintenance and landscaping business servicing the North Shore and Northern Beaches of Sydney. A gentle character, he loves a laugh, his clients and staff would often describe him as the loveliest fellow around! In early 2014 when presented with the opportunity to purchase Plant Trade Nursery and move to beautiful Port Stephens it was an offer too good to refuse, so he and Amy packed up and here they are. The best decision they have made to date! (…other than getting married of course!!)
Being a qualified Landscaper, Steve continues to provide a quality garden design, landscaping and gardening service to Port Stephens, Maitland and the Hunter with the nursery as a fitting base for garden design, safe to say it’s a match made in heaven!
Amy comes from a business background, with a strong business mind and a passion for all things creative, her love affair with horticulture started about the same time as her love affair with Steve in 2006! Over many years together they make a great business team having built a successful landscaping and garden maintenance business in Sydney together and now continuing to combine and expand their passion at Plant Trade.
Amy’s bubbly personality, quirky style and keen eye for design and decorating has led to the start of the whimsical gift and homewares cottage shop Best Kept Secret – Gifts & Homewares; inside Plant Trade and now a personal decorating service for homes, businesses and events. She also has, of course, a wealth of plant knowledge and loves helping design beautiful outdoor spaces
Kyle, already a qualified tradesman he has joined the team looking to follow his passion for plants and all things outdoors. He is currently completing his Landscape Gardner qualification under Steve’s expert guidance.
Kyle is extremely handy on the tools and an all-round lovely bloke! While his plant knowledge is gathering speed at a rate of knots, he is still learning, so if you happen to catch him flying solo at the nursery and he doesn’t know the answer to your question, he is lovely, very helpful and Steve and Amy are never far away!
Dean joined the Plant Trade Team in 2015, also an all-round top bloke, Dean is always ready to go above and beyond to help! He also has a passion for all things horticulture and outdoors, he is currently completing his Horticulture qualification under Steve and Amy’s expert guidance.
While his plant knowledge is gathering speed at a rate of knots, he is still learning, so if you happen to catch him flying solo at the nursery and he doesn’t know the answer to your question, he is lovely, very helpful and Steve and Amy are never far away!
With a bubbly friendly personality, Dani’s an asset to the Plant Trade Team! An accomplished horsewoman, Dani is qualified in Agriculture and just like the rest of us has a huge passion for all things gardening, plants and caring for the environment. She is currently also completing her studies in Conservation Land Management (go Dani!!)
Amy’s mum and straight up the loveliest person on the planet! Seriously, we challenge you to find a kinder soul! A keen gardener and retail guru, Sue helps out around the nursery from time to time. Be warned though, you won’t just leave with plants or giftware, after meeting Sue you’ll have made a new friend too!
Steve’s brother, also an all round great bloke! Has been in the horticultural industry for over 20 years, has a huge amount of knowledge and helps out around the nursery from time to time. He has a big smile and an even bigger sense of humour (mostly dad jokes, don’t say we didn’t warn you!)
Our trusty companion! Chali is our beloved furry team member charged with the all important job, welcoming everyone to the nursery (watch out he just loves giving you kisses!). He is a gorgeous 3yr old Kelpie and nursery mascot. He is probably the hardest worker of the lot of us!
He can be found hanging out around the nursery most days, greeting customers and babysitting kids and bored spouses alike with games of fetch! He is a very gentle soul and very trustworthy around all walks of life, however if you are frightened of dogs please just let us know and we will keep him at a distance, he is just as happy inside relaxing on his comfy bed so it’s really no trouble.
Bob is our Koala friend that lives in the gum trees in and the bamboo area, he’s asleep most of the time and sometimes hard to spot but if you look really carefully you might just get lucky!!
